Question:
My knowledge of that area es very limited, but I will try to describe the situation as well as I can] "E" suffered several traumas, including brain injuries, fracture of the base (?) of the skull, lung injuries and fracture of the both clavicles. During the first two days, she had two operations in order to rebuild the base of the skull, first, and to extract a coagule (?) from the frontal part of the head, second. She was on the verge of death, but now, 4 weeks later, she is much better. The lung injuries are almot totally cured, although she is still in coma and so "slept" (should I say unconscious?) Last friday, doctors decided to stop giving her any more sedatives, but she has not waken up yet... Doctors are worried about the fact that she does not wake up. Aparently, she has an edema located close to the areas of the brain that control the awakening process.

Answer: All head injuries are individual. No two are alike. Each is different but ther can be some similarities. Sometimes the coma is induced by drugs given by the doctor to reduce swelling tin the brain. My adult daughter was in a coma for 3 weeks which part of was drug induced by the doctor. She had 8 cm surgically removed from her right frontal lobe. She was in a motorized wheelchair for 6 years. She now walks with a quad cane and drives her own car.

When my daughter was in a coma, the nurses told us to surround her with photos of her and her friends, play her favorite music all the time, talk to her a lot, carress her arhands and arms, read to her, and the like. The theory is that subconsciously she heard some or all of what was being said but could not respond mentally and physically at the time because of the head injury. Try it. I do not know where you can go in Spain for traumatic brain injury treatment. I suggest you contact the American Embassy there and the Spanish doctors association whatever name it goes by in that country. You might also ask the local police dept. where they take their trauma patients in Spain.
