Question: I had a traumatic brain injury a few years ago caused by wrongly prescribed (negligently prescribed) medicines. At the time of injury I had a HMO but they did not help me get tests, etc. I never recieved proper care after injury so brain damage didn't "heal" properly. I have been diagnosed with significant brain injury (4 parts of brain) by a PET scan and a EEG test. I have alot of ongoing fluctations which can sometimes be severe/painful such as brain fog, mental/physical energy fluctations, difficult sleeping(can't fall asleep easily because of damage), inability to handle stress or relax-it is difficult to feel relaxed/ok no matter what I do, reoccuring infections, a general feeling out out of balance/unwellness and other fluctating symptoms on mostly the physical level. I went thru alot of intense trauma from the severe long term pain, etc. after the injury and this may be contributing to some. I feel the physical brain injury has not healed well and this is the main reason I can't seem to feel "ok" and clearheaded and this is the main reason why I am having so many fluctuating symptoms each week. I am in urgent need of any information so I can help heal my brain injury and my body/mind (and so I can stop having so many fluctuating symptoms,etc.). I have some hope but it is difficult as some doctors have almost given up on me. I am only 25 and will do anything if I can feel "ok" most of the time and stop having so many fluctuating symptoms(mostly physical but includes brain fog,etc.). Some doctors have made me feel hopeless(mostly M.D.'s). I have a faith that the human body has a amazing capacity to heal and get better no matter how "damaged" one may be- Is this accurate?
Answer: Is it possible that the naturopathics you have seen are not qualified. I could be wrong, you could have seen acredited proffesionals. But there a very few accredited schools for them, only 4 in the United States. Those that attend can put a ND at the end of their names. Don't be fooled by the DR. they put in the front of their names. Those who took courses through non qualified sources can't. At least not legally. Lucky for me my state monitors them and gives liscense to those who went to accredited schools. New Age magazine publishes a guide once a year listing by state and practise qualified paractioners, you may want to look into that if your state doesn't liscence ND. Second be patient, I know that sounds terrible but the body is amazing. Most certainly the brain in it's recovery ability. It will take years for the full potential of your brains ability to heal what it can, and remap itself to make up for the losses. My loving husband suffered a traumatic brain injury 11 years ago. After he came out of the coma and went through all the therapy he was told he would never walk or be able to care for himself again. The doctors basically told us not to hope for the impossible. With a positive attitude and full of hope he relearned everything. He now holds down a good full time job. The only thing one might notice about him is when he runs it looks different. On occasion his short term memory gives him a bit of trouble. Yes he still has some foggy moments like you describe having.
