Question: I'm back in the United States after (get this) being struck by a car last week on Cayman Brac. Long story short, I'm lucky to be alive, nothing broken but I had a concussion, have multiple head to toe lacerations, have a few sutures in my left knee and right tricep, plus bruises and gouges everywhere. I'll need some rehab on the tendons & ligaments in my left knee. I was standing next to the passenger door of a car when another car crossed the center line and nailed me at what witnesses estimate was 40 or 50 mph. It was at night and I saw headlights just in time to react (which I'm told was by trying to jump it) after that it was pretty much lights out except for coming around briefly and thinking I was dreaming the whole thing from time to time. It wasn't until I was in the ER that chronological reality returned. The best part is that I had just before being hit by the car, I had hung up a pay phone after talking with a girl whose mom felt dating a diving instructor was dangerous because I might be attacked by a shark. I don't know the make & model of the car yet, but if it were a Tiburon (doubtful) that would be uncanny. Wondering . . . did you ever get over to the walls (Jackson Bay and Bloody Bay) off the coast of Little Cayman??? If not, then I can understand your comment about being "so over it" . . . sort of like I feel about the waters around Key West.
Answer: I prefer places such as Nassau (New Providence Island) when it comes to islands. Also, I grew very tired of diving on coral reefs because, although beautiful, the diving isn't challenging at all. Now that I was able to experience "the dream" of most divers (I'm so over it) I'll be confining my dive travel to Canada, Scotland, Ireland, England and other such places. it did involve a head injury, but I just returned from having CAT scans and X-rays redone at a local hospital and they are all ok :-) Whatever is "wrong" with me must be rooted deeply in my psyche! I do love Long Island Sound because you tend to find lots of stuff during a dive. Plus, you never know if a great white is around. If you were able to dive the "walls" then I would attribute the comment about being "so over it" to a head injury or too much medication (same as others have said.) I guess that infortunate accident, for which we are all sorry, involved a head injury? You might love Long Island Sound. 30-72 degrees, and visibility ranging from 2.5 feet all the way to 12-15 on an exceptional day.
