Question:
The Lower Mainland Head Injury is looking for other head injury group around the world if you can help it would really help us so help us !.

Answer: Try the mailing list tbi-sprt which is available as the websites bit.listserv.tbi-support. The St.Johns University traumatic Brain Injury Support List, was created for the exchange of information by survivors, supporters, and professionals concerned with traumatic brain injury and other neurological impairments which currently lack a forum. We know from our own experience that one of the difficulties people dealing with tbi face is that their time is often dominated by the survivor's recovery process

Here in TN the situation has been bad. The hospitals are now REQUIRED to report the TBIs to the registry and a state office does send out an information pack. Many of these people call the state office and say "I had no idea I / my child had a brain injury" The hospitals don't explain anything . Especially if the family is lower income and not able ( whether by education or social status) to demand and root out these services, there is nobody to tell them about the services.

there are advocates through the state tramatic brain injury program, a service coordinator fro Nashville and Mephis through the TBIA, and a Independent living specailist through the independent living center of Appallachia (the DRC) . But you have to know about these agencies to request services, many of the TBI population here occured three or more years ago when there were NO services (unless you could get you child declaired MR/DD, then maybe a few) When the insurance ran out the families were on there own, no follow up . In the case of children the schools still fight to keep the disabled OUT , we in our local support group see numerous siblings who now are left with the decision of what to do with their TBI brother or sister after their parents have passed away.
