Atkins/Complementary Med & Depression

Question:
I only mentioned diabetes because every time an ASD-MED poster posts his or her depression is not caused by any emotional or psych problems, but is an orgnainic or physiological disorder comparable to diabetes someone with diabetes posts a reply insisting the two are not comparable, that diabetes is organic, while depression result of being a headcase.

And, the diabetcis posting that are wrong if Dr. Atkins empirical tabulation of tens of thousands of case history are representitive of all cases of diabetes and depression. Both adult onset diabetes or type II and most cases of depression caused by organic problems owing to food intolerance and insufficient nutrients, too much sugar and high carb diets I experienced major depression 3 times in my 20's but I bounced back within 3-6 mos. Then I got pregnant, and my olfactory senses changed or became heightened during the pregnancy such that the odor of meat and chickne was so pungent to me I was repulsed by the thought of ever eating such again, just as I have never eaten fish for same reason. My consumption of meat and chicken never returned to anywhere near a healthy level and as I never consumed fish to begin with, I think i caused myself some insufficiency of nutrients this way (cant stand eggs either).

I eat more pasta instead of the meats these last 14 years. Now, I have maintained the same weight since I was 16 except the pregnancy, so I am a perfect weight, and its not like I gorge on carbs and sugar or anthying, its just I am no longer eating a balanced way, and interestingly this neverending depression been simultaneous, with its worsening in winter when less vitamin d from sun and anll is given me. Any informations ?

I's have been learning/realizing for some time now that mashed potatoes and pizza have bigger impacts on their post-meal blood sugars than ice cream. And non-fat foods high in sugar (a category of food products that have flooded the US market in the past few years) are the worst of all. I myself rather doubt that the poor diets of many people before they become Type II diabetics doesn't bring on major clinical depression. Poor diets make most people feel crummy - but "crummy" isn't quite in the same league with the symptoms of true clinical depression. Really, really high blood sugar (mine has been nearly 1300 before) does resemble major depression, but once you get your blood sugar down, the symptoms disappear. Were that only so for the clinically depressed.

Answer: I dont know if i ever introduced myself, my name is anna rainbows and i come from the group support.depression.manic; im an old druggie and am really interesterested in all the ways that the neurochemicals do their stuff, its ultra fascinating all the stuff ive learned in the last five years....

anyway my major dx is ptsd: my others, bp, schizoaffective type, head injury/depression. 'i was born in a crossfire hurricane' you know. one of my first memories is having my head held underwater by a parental unit. life was hell, then i was committed for a year at 16 by my parents; then disowned; then ran away to live with the gypsies; then at 20 i was hit by a car and had a major head traumatic brain injury... that was never treated cause i was a homeless deadhead

however looking at that in a different light, if you think that chemical injury to the brain could partially 'cause' 'whatever is wrong with us', then diet -could- be part of the series of injuries to the brain or nervous system, that causes that latent gene, for 'whatever is wrong with us', to come to the front.
