Question: Is there a specific aspect you're looking at? As far as dealing with the effects, a great book (invaluable for the story) is Injury: Learning to Heal by Betty (or maybe Betsy) Mercer, PhD. She actually suffered a severe closed head injury as a result of a drunk driving crash and now does a lot of speaking on behalf of MADD. In addition, there are resources on the net. Here's a definition of closed head injuries I came across (most of the information is linked to personal injury attorney websites, but the resources are generally valid): Subtle, But Serious, Injuries Pouring orange juice in coffee. Experiencing short-term memory loss. Forgetting and losing items. Being unable to read for more than an hour without drifting. Losing one's temper at the drop of the hat. Being annoyingly silly. Experiencing an inability to figure out how to drive home from the market. These are just a few examples of how closed-head injuries can affect people's lives.
Answer: I note in one of your other post that you said you don't know too many gay couples. Well, I was a theater major in college, most of the men in the department were gay. So if you need to pick anyone's brain I'd be happy to help. So far I have no nits about the relationship. I think you've got a good handle on it. Adam and Troy actually remind me of a couple of friends who are in a long, committed relationship. I'd hate to think of something like this happening to them. I also live in St. Louis, so if you need any background I'm here for ya. Where'd you do the research on head trauma? I'm dealing with a similar issue in a story and could use all the help I can get. Just because the parents challenge Adam's legal authority doesn't mean that the judge will see it their way. Of course, some judges aren't always fair about the aspect of homosexuality (the reader hasn't met the judge in this story yet). Normal circumstances would be any time that he's incapable of consenting for himself (unconscious, head injury or illness deemed debilitating to his daily functioning, etc).
