Could use some insight into the topic of tbi and loss of smell and taste. My mom was hit by a car about 10 weeks ago, resulting in frontal lobe brain injury. She is recovering rapidly, but just two weeks ago she began to lose her sense of smell and taste. From everything I've read about brain injury this is very unusual. Although loss of those senses isn't uncommon, it regularly happens immediately after suffering the injury - not several weeks after the trauma. My mother is trying to get a consultant at Monell in Philly to meet with her about it, but thought someone here might also be able to provide some advice or suggestions.

Brain/Head Injuries & Strokes after hitting pavement & sustaining brain/head/body injuries, i now know that there are many things that can go wrong, then & later. one problem following head/brain injuries, is the risk of strokes for some reason, these injuries can cause strokes, even in young children after my having a stroke, i was told to take one low-dosage, enteric-coated aspirin a day, to try to prevent future strokes. [the cheapest brand of this aspirin that i have found, is the Equate brand at Walmart.] because i was taking aspirin, the second stroke was not as severe as the first. i cannot take aspirin right now, because i have breast cancer & am taking chemotherapy.
