ADD and Brain Trauma

Question:
can an adult who has had a head injury be in the same situationas a person who has ADD. Will the medication and theraphy used for ADD help them? My daughter was injured in a racing accident in 1988. She survivied, did not received counseling etc that is now standard for having lost her career. Her psychitrist now thinks medication used for ADD will help her. If any one has knowledge of articles, doctors opinions, etc on this subject, I would be glad to find out source

Answer: traumatic brain injury often leaves the victim with behavioral symptoms similar to ADD. Impulsivity, distracibility, difficulty sensing social cues,( like how you can be driving someone else crazy..) , over-reaction to small disappointments, extreme disorganization and poor sense of time passing, etc. These are mostly associated with the frontal lobe of the brain.

It is probably worth trying the same meds that have been demonstrated to help ADD, but the cause of the symptoms is much different. I'm sorry, I don't have any recent sources in brain injury treatment to refer you to. But, after working with adults with behavioal problems from brain injury, and rasing two boys with ADHD- I would definitely go for it.
