Question:
It is an absolutely vile cycle that will lead ultimately to my end. I do not see a way out. My brain has been hosed up by the medication I've taken but my pleas for help seem to fall on deaf ears. The doctors won't listen, and the limitations of my HMO make it impossible to get long-term therapy. The brain damage I suffered from SSRI's make it hard to converse well and so my social network is nearly nonexistent.

BTW, I just did a Google search on the long-term prognosis for folks like myself who have sustained diffuse chemical injury and it does not look good. People with SSRI damage and other forms of permanent brain injury lose most of their social supports and friends within a few years of the injury. If nothing else it might make living with the damage more tollerable. But what do I know...?

Answer: People with brain injuries will find access to important information on area support groups and other public services, including names, phone numbers, and descriptions of service providers. In addition, visitors will be able to ask questions of experts in the field! Kathy M., author of the BRAIN BOOK=AE System, will be available to respond to questions and give advice. Neuropsychologists Brick Johnstone and Janet Farmer will answer more technical/medical questions.

Family members of individuals with brain injuries will benefit from the basic information and expert opinions offered on TBIMO. In addition, families and friends can learn about a new support program beginning in Missouri. The program is called the Support Partner Program and is intended to provide support and information to families and friends of hospitalized loved ones who have incurred a traumatic brain injury. A description of the program and volunteer information is on TBIMO.ORG

Service providers will have access to a new Missouri program called the TBI Leadership Training Academy. The Academy was designed to provide support and information to service coordinators and other professionals who serve people with traumatic brain injury. In the future, there will be a network in which professionals will have a means to communicate and consult with one another.
