Question: Last week, I went for an information session with a neuropsychologist at the Rehab Hospital here in Charlotte, NC associated with Carolinas Medical. (Note, my son, the TBI'r is off in school, and she is helping to fill in some of the gaps and functioning as second opinion/sounding board) In the lobby was a very nice interactive computer, great graphics etc. It is one of 5 test sites around the nation for this program from the National Brain Injury Foundation. I can not say enough good things about it. There is a main menu, with options to choose who you are (patient, caregiver, age, degree of severity also I think) Then another menu to choose what kind of information you wanted . All this came with pictures and sound. All in small paragraphs of spoken information with some of the same information displayed on the monitor with a picture. But putting it in the waiting area, where no one else can know why you are accessing this information was quite wonderful I thought. The information was basic BUT very up to date, very supportive of talking with your doctor, very , very informative to the family of what types of behaviors are possible. Any more info ?
Answer: Brain Injury Association (They are really touchy about their name - ask the New Hampshire Brain Injury Association - the folks in DC think it should come first not the satae) The system they have constructed (I think they call it a BIRC - Brain Injury Resource Center) is great, if you can get close to it or afford the price (only a few have been sold at something like $20k ea, mostly to lawyers if I recall correctly). There is not really anything on it that you can't get elsewhere in print or in videos, etc. but they have done a very nice job putting it all in one database. we have already produced a first video tape, for general distribution on brain injury. This video is on identifying so called mild brain injury, and was developed for the BIA national trial lawyers conference in Palm Beach in Florida. This video is available for distribution if you want to see the nature of the product we can produce.
