Areas Of Brain Injury

Question:

I am wondering about whether the brain/head injury/damage would really be much less severe if I wear a helmet and hit my head again. (I was climbing sport on the day of the accident. I always wear helmets when I climb trad, and my helmet has saved me from falling rocks at the *base* of climbs at Seneca Rocks.)

Answer:

I'm not a doctor, do what the doctor says. If it were me I'd follow those instructions for at least 6 months (no climbing or impact sports at all). Not being able to remember beyond 1 hour ago (brain injury) because I couldn't wait to go climbing would be plain stupid. Then I'd slowly get back into it with toproping. Eventually at the prescribed time I'd get back into it. On the topic (kinda), I've never once heard a good reason *not* to wear a helmet. Granted, I don't wear one in the gym, but I never climb outside without one.
